Whig Rose Block Progress

I don't know if you can tell but I'm really excited about this quilt.  Over the past 5 years or so I've discovered I really enjoy hand applique.  So when I finished a recent applique project I was looking for something to keep my little hands busy while I watched/listened to a couple of my favourite television shows.

I have always loved any antique quilt that included red, green , a bit of yellow and perhaps a little pink and of course plenty of applique.  I have always felt a full applique quilt would be biting off more than I could cope with so it had remained "one of those days" type of dreams until last week.... I don't know what changed but I found myself drawing up the pattern from a photo of a beautiful antique I was at my LQS working out yardage AND buying it, still a little in shock at what I was doing.

Now , so close to the finish line of the first block, I don't know what I was so worried about, it's been  really fun and I cannot wait to get all the blocks done.  I haven't yet decided if there will be an appliqued border or not, I will make that decision after another 8 blocks are completed!  So, another progress photo!  I will be using the same fabrics in each block, I love the colours together on the centre flower! It's not exactly perfect but I love it how it is.

and a close up of miss pretty...

I'd love to keep chatting but I need to sew a couple more leaves and / or flowers on before I have to make dinner.   Why do families have to eat???

Happy stitching,

  1. Oh that is coming along so nicely! don't those colours look great together? Never enough hours in the day when you want to sew!

  2. Lovely, I finished a quilt much like this several months ago. So pretty and a delight to work on.

  3. it is coming along lovely-I love needle turn applique also.

  4. Very nice! One thing about appliqué is definitely addicting! My family demands food too darn it! LOL

  5. gorgeous, Rowena! I love the colours and prints you've chosen. I have been looking at antique quilts of this pattern lately as well. I'm still not ready to dive in, but obviously you were! Thanks for sharing your progress.

  6. Beautiful! Your colors are stunning. Who needs food when they have fabric.:)

  7. I'm with you on the eating thing...we'd get so much more quilting done if we could just keep going. But then again, I DO like to eat! Love the block that you are working on - it is so sophisticated, and the colours are just perfect.
